Supplies & cuts:
Start with two bases - one cut in a cake color (I used a texture white with plans to ink blend icing) and one for a platter!
One bold pattern for a top icing layer
2 rounded icing decorating accents + 1 set of icing dollops. I cut mine in white glitter.
1 Cake filling cut out of scrap paper - this will be used only as an ink blending template.
Additional supplies will include a
sequin mix of your choice, an acetate sheet,
foam tape, non-liquid
adhesive & any other embellishments you wish to add to the finished project.
Assembly:
Use the cake filling cut to ink blend icing stripes on the cake base. I secured the filling piece tightly with one hand while I ink blended pink onto my white cardstock. You could also trace and color in the icing lines!
I inked the edges of my top icing layer for added dimension to the project.
Flip the top icing layer and add non-liquid, flat
adhesive to attach this piece to the clear acetate. You can use the base die to cut the acetate, or fussy cut it! I suggest using a precision plate if using dies to cut acetate.
Next use dimensional
foam tape around the edges of the acetate to create the shaker well. Ensure there are no gaps between the pieces of foam tape bordering the cake perimeter. I layered up three foam tape layers to ensure my chunky sequin mix had room to shake and move. I ensured the bottom layer of foam was very thin so it could be hidden by the rounded icing decorating accents.
Remove the foam tape backing on three sides of the cake. Keep the tape backing on one side. Use a scoop or very carefully pour your
sequin mix through the open side of the cake, then remove the backing and secure the shaker adhesive so no sequins spill out.
Use the rounded icing decoration to embellish the top of the cake as pictured on the die cut packaging. Use the additional rounded icing decoration to hide the foam tape layer on the clear acetate at the bottom of the cake. Decorate the rest of the cake as desired with the dollops and hearts. Place the finished shaker atop the second base layer cut in a plate paper color - turned upside down so the rounded edge shows below the cake.
There are so many possibilities for ways to decorate the final shaker product! I added a decorative stamped sentiment with a felt heart and tiny tag. I added a few red glitter bows as well.
I hope you're inspired to create a sweet Valentine treat for the holiday!
