Make a Cake Card! Plus a Gift Card Holder!

Hey crafty friends! Emily here with you today & I am really excited to share with you how to create a cake shaped card featuring our Make a Cake Gift Card Holder Die. I am going to show you how to create the front of your cake with NO gift card holder notches. You can find a full YouTube tutorial below!

Keep scrolling to see step-by-step photos if that's more your speed.

Pick the "flavor" of your cake! Choose any color cardstock you wish to be the base of your cake. You can start with an A2 sized card base (or larger), folded in half. Move the base cake die so that the die doesn't cut through the folded part, making a cake shaped card base.

Now you will want to cut out a base for the front of your cake & the gift card holder portion (which will go on the inside of your card). If you'd like your cake & icing to match, make sure you follow this step.

Then, whatever color you choose for the base of your inside of your card, be sure the strips for the front of your card are the same color as well. Not mandatory, but if you want your cakes "matching" like I show in the video, that's what you'll do!

To begin, you will either use your cake base you cut out or just use the card base as your background "cake" color. I like to add 3 strips to the front of my card (which means you have to cut out gift card holder portions) the same color.

The easiest way to line this up is to use an already cut out gift card holder portion & place it on the front of your card. You will take your strips & glue them in those empty spots. I also like to include one on the "top" portion of the cake. I have a short video HERE you can watch to see this process as well!

Then it's just about assembling your cake like normal. Put on the larger icing piece, then the more delicate details come next, the icing swirls & the dollops of course! The larger frosting piece will cover a little bit of the top line you add, don't worry - it just adds to the effect!

For the inside of your cake card, on the right side you will put the actual gift card holder piece we originally cut out. Line it up with the center bottom & it will fit perfectly! Because we turned this into a card, the left side will be a bit smaller, so we do need to trim the larger icing part down on the left side a little bit.

You'll also trim off a little bit of that icing strip on the left part, but don't worry - you won't be able to tell!

Decorating the inside of this card is fun! Add the rest of your icing bits & then on the left side, there's just enough space for our Short & Sweet Happy Birthday Word Dies

One of the best parts about this super unique birthday card is that it fits inside an A2 sized envelope! Plus, it holds a gift card, obviously!

This is the most fun way to give a birthday card, in my opinion. I also think this is a great card for a couple - then you can give away a gift card to their favorite restaurant! You can even pair our "Happy" word die with our "for you" word dies & create a congratulation cake card!

I hope you loved this fun blog & recreate your own cake cards!

xoxo Emily
