Moth Pop-up Card

Hey all! Jill here, and I’m excited to share a fun pop-up card today featuring some of my favorite products. Let’s jump right in!

Supplies

Shaker Frame Die – The Doily
All the Happy Things Stamp Set
Make a Moth Die Set – Betty
Make a Moth Die Set – Twyla
Thin 3D Foam Squares – White Mix
Your favorite adhesive
Cardstock (solid, patterned, glitter, metallic—whatever you love!)

Step 1: Assemble the Moths

Start by putting together your moths. For this card, I used both the Betty and Twyla moths. I love using metallic cardstock for the moth bodies and accents, but feel free to mix and match with whatever cardstock you have on hand.

Step 2: Create the Card Front

Die cut the frame using the Shaker Frame Die and adhere it to an A2-sized card panel. For the main sentiment, die cut the “yay” sentiment multiple times and stack the layers together. Since the die is very delicate, layering not only adds strength but also gives the card a bit of dimension.

Once assembled, adhere the Twyla moth on top of the sentiment. I placed Twyla right on the “y” of “yay” and it fits great!

Step 3: Prepare the Pop-Up Card Base

Take a folded card base measuring 4" x 5.25" and place it horizontally. Open the card and adhere patterned paper to the top inside panel.

Fold the card closed and measure 2.25" in from each side, marking lightly with a pencil. At each mark, draw a 1" vertical line. (Refer to the diagram or video if needed.) Use scissors to cut along the lines.

Open the card and push the cut section inward to form the pop-up mechanism. Apply adhesive to this pop-up piece and attach the Betty moth. I like to align the bottom of the moth with the bottom of the pop-up so it folds smoothly when the card is closed.

Step 4: Add the Inside Sentiment

Choose a sentiment from the all the happy things stamp set. I used “It’s your birthday!”, but this set truly has something for every occasion and is one I reach for often.

Optional: Add a strip of coordinating patterned paper along the bottom of the inside panel for extra detail.

Step 5: Assemble the Card

Adhere the completed card front to the base and allow it to sit for a few minutes so the adhesive can fully set.

And that’s it—your pop-up moth card is complete! After this, I tend to open and close my pop-up moth card about 50 times to admire my creation (and make sure the pop up works)! But of course, this is optional!
