How to Make a Simple Easel Card

Hi crafty friends! Today I am sharing how to create an Easel card. An Easel card is just how it sounds, a card that can be propped up on it's own, like an easel. This is a great card to give someone for a super special occasion, one that they can set on their mantel & admire. Below I walk you through how to create this super fun & simple card in the video. Keep scrolling below the video to see step-by-step photos & instructions if that's more your speed!

Starting with an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, trim the 8.5 inch side at 4.25 inches. This will give you two vertical A2 sized card bases. You will take one & fold it in half like normal to give you the longer card base measured at 5.5 x 4.25 inches (A2 Vertical).  From here, you’ll take the top flap, and fold it onto itself. If you prefer to score the card base, it would be at 2 ¾ inches.

See the image below for reference:

Now you have your card base ready! You will fold the top half over itself to create a "mountain" like shown below:

The next step is to begin decorating! What's great about having an A2 sized card is that our A2 Liner Die works perfectly here, but so do our Decorative Sentiment Dies! This is a card that you don't necessarily see the inside top half, but definitely something where you can decorate a little bit since the recipient will open & see it.

First, using our Card Sentiment Dies, I cut out an A2 Liner in some patterned paper to be a background to our decorative frame we created. This is definitely optional, but I felt it added more to the front of the card design.

It's important to note that I don't adhere anything onto the front of my card until I'm done with the inside. That way, the bulkiness of the front won't get in the way at all.

I also cut out two of the smaller decorative frames from the Decorative Sentiment Dies Set. These end up fitting perfectly in the top folds of the inside of the card! This is a great opportunity for some decor & I also added a simple piece of white cardstock framing one of the decorative dies so you could write more sentiments there.

Here's how they look on the inside of the card:

Amazing how these dies fit perfectly on the inside of these folds! The next step is to decorate the bottom half of your card. Here, I decided to use rub-on-transfers. They are simple, but add a lot of dimension & beautiful interest with no extra bulk - which is great for a card like this that does tend to have a little more bulkiness!

I like to use my score board tool to rub these one, sometimes they come with a little tool & sometimes they don't, so having the scoring piece handy is nice! Simply rub on, peel off & you have a beautiful design.

From here, what's important (besides the lovely decor) is making your sentiment or whatever piece you're putting on the bottom half of the inside of your card is elevated so the front of your card can rest on it, hence the term "easel." Here, I used some Crafty Foam Tape. You could also use 3D Foam Squares. I wouldn't recommend the Thin Foam Squares here as you want the necessary lift so the card will stay upright!

I loved using the larger decorative frame as a background with some patterned paper & then adding my sentiment on top with the banner. I used Succulent green & the "so proud of you" stamp from all the happy things Stamp Set.

Then, simply placing the sentiment near the bottom of the inside of the card here.

Notice how it sits so easily up against our sentiment we created! Now time to adhere the front onto your card base. You will only apply the adhesive on the bottom half of the front of your card base here.

Then simply adhere the base that we created on, & you have your beautiful easel card, completed!

What do you think? Is this something you will try out? Let me know in the comments!
