Supplies Needed
-
Happy Birthday – Big and Bold die set
-
“For You” word dies
-
Acetate
-
Sequin mix (for the shaker element)
-
Cardstock
-
Patterned paper of your choice
-
Foam tape
- Adhesive (liquid glue or tape runner)
Step 1: Create the Die-Cut Sentiment
Using patterned paper, die cut the “Happy Birthday – Big and Bold” sentiment. Carefully remove the die-cut words and set aside the positive die cut pieces for a future project, since we will be using the negative panel (the background piece with the letters cut out) for this card.
Be sure to keep the letter inserts from the die cut. There will be one insert from the letter “A” and two inserts from the letters “P”. You will need these small pieces later when assembling your shaker.
Step 2: Build the Shaker Window
Trim your patterned paper panel with the die cut sentiment to 4.5" x 6". Cut a piece of acetate slightly smaller than the panel and adhere it to the back of the die cut panel, making sure it fully covers the openings. Use a light amount of glue around the edges.
Next, apply foam tape around the die cut letters on the back of the panel to create a well/barrier for the shaker bits. It’s important to make sure there are no gaps in the foam tape, as any openings will allow sequins to escape!
Step 3: Add the Shaker Elements
Remove the backing from the foam tape and pour your sequin mix into the center of the shaker area. You can be a little generous with the sequins to create extra sparkle and movement.
Cut another piece of cardstock to 4.5" x 6" and carefully place it over the foam tape to completely seal the shaker. Press firmly around the edges to ensure everything is secure. I like to use a contrasting color for the cardstock as this part will show through the die cut letters in the front.
Step 4: Finish the Sentiment
Die cut the smaller “for you” sentiment from cardstock and adhere it to the lower right corner of the card front. The sentiment now reads “Happy For You,” making this design perfect for multiple occasions such as birthdays, promotions, congratulations, or…just because!
Step 5: Embellish the Card Front
The Happy – Big and Bold die set includes several options for the letter “i,” including a circle, heart, and star. Die cut a few of these shapes from coordinating cardstock and adhere them around the card panel as embellishments. These small details add extra charm and personality to the finished design.
Thanks so much for reading! Hope to see you create this soon! Jill
