Introducing the Shaker Frame Die - The Doily! Emily walks you through this brand NEW product & why she created it to help reduce stress in the craft room! Check out step by step how to use this one of a kind die.

How to use The Shaker Frame Die - The Doily

We have a fabulous NEW product in store & I can't wait to share it with you! Let me introduce you to: The Shaker Frame Die - The Doily. Below is a full process video showing you the in's & out's to this die, how to use it AND how to make a shaker card! Keep scrolling to see more pictures & step-by-step images.

The Shaker Frame Die is unique because with just ONE cut,  you're going to get the entire frame + hole (but decorative of course) in order to make a shaker card. I've named this particular one "The Doily" because I've included an oval die cut in this set with the beautiful scalloped edges & embossed detail, making it truly look like a doily.

I wanted to have another die to cut out the scrap piece that comes from cutting the frame out with the hole. This way you can utilize the entire piece of paper! No waste! Also, the little oval doily is a lot of fun to just use on its own.

Let's talk about the frame, because you've noticed I called the doily piece an oval. The frame & hole are/have a very slight oval. Nothing too large or oblong. I wanted it to be subtle but also have enough space around the edges for foam tape to fit on the back.

Our Frame size matches the A2 Liner Die perfectly! So it's 5.25 inches by 4 inches in total. The skinner sides will fit foam tape up to 1/2 an inch, but you can just grab our Shaker Frame Bundle & get it all in one package!

Now, let's make a shaker card together! As I said above, our Shaker Frame Bundle includes:

  • Emily Moore Designs Shaker Frame Die - The Doily
  • Emily Moore Designs Wildflowers Sequin Mix
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Crafty Foam Tape (the perfect size!)
  • Brutus Monroe Acetate Sheets (20 per pack!)

So first, cut out a Shaker Frame in the color of your choice! At this time, you can also die cut out the doily oval, & an A2 Liner (I typically choose white, but feel free to pick a color you want!). I like a white background for my shakers just simply because the sequins will show up nicely.

If you don't have our Card Sentiment Dies yet - you're gonna want them! Our dies in this set coordinate so well with ALL of our dies.

Next, grab an Acetate Sheet & you'll want to trim it down about 1/2 inch on each side. Then flip your frame to the back & apply the acetate sheet with some tape

Now time to apply your foam tape! Just be sure that the tape touches on all edges (the corners) so no sequins spill out!

I even made sure our die has 5/8 inch sides so the foam tape would fit perfectly. Any foam tape though with 1/2 inch width would work great as well!

Now using your A2 Liner you cut out, you can put some sequins on there, a little spread out in the center.

You'll want a decent amount of sequins so when you shake it around, you'll still see sequins, but not too much that they will get stuck. I had one crafty customer suggest gluing a couple sequins to the center background so that some will always be showing no matter what! What a clever idea!

Now, it's time to assemble! Peel the backing of your foam tape off & carefully line up with the A2 Liner & place down.

Now you have your shaker card base! From here, I like to assemble the inside of my card & then decorate my front more & place that on last. That way the bulkiness doesn't get in the way of decorating the inside of your card!

For this card, I decided to cut the doily ovals in half & layer them! I then cut this with our Decorative Sentiment Frame. My paper I was using was quite thick to begin with (110 lb), so layering that with 2 other cardstocks isn't something I recommend, just because it didn't cut through all that thickness too well. But, I was able to get it all off! It's definitely a fun technique, just something I'd try with a less weighted cardstock (especially if your going to do layers like I tried!).

This card was so fun to make with all the springy colors. & look at all this embossing detail!! This includes the Doily Oval & Decorative Sentiment Dies. Plus all the happy things for that nice, crisp stamp!

Here's the entire front of the shaker card finished:

I designed the Shaker Frame Die to make creating shaker cards a lot easier & more fun. It's simple, but has the lovely embossed edging so there's just enough charm to add a unique touch while still being able to make it your own.

My goal was to be able to use it ALL year round! Plus, you'll get  a new sequin mix for every season! So I've made that possible for you :)

Here are some more shaker cards I've created with the Shaker Frame Die!

Look at that beautiful embossed detail!!

Also, just because I created this to make Shaker Cards - doesn't means you need to limit to using it for just that! Check out this beautiful layered card I made below, it includes no sequins & no acetate sheets. This is a great place to start if you want to just use the frame! I also just used a cute journaling card for the saying in the background of the frame.

SO cute! The inside of this card was fun also, I ended up cutting out two doilies & then a gift tag from our Card Sentiments Die Set - I love the way this one turned out!

Here are some more insides of cards that share a couple of different ways to use the Doily Oval

These two dies are SO much fun to play with. You can really make it your own. I loved creating this & hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do! I used to dislike shaker cards, I felt intimidated to make them - so this helps me feel way better about the process & I hope it does the same for you! Let me know what you think below in the comments!

If you'd like to see the replay of our Facebook Live where I revealed this product, you can check that out HERE.

Otherwise, I can't wait for you all to try this one out!!

From the crafty corner of the universe, I'm Emily...

xoxo.
