Hi crafty friends! It's Emily & today we're dressing up gift cards! A handmade gift card holder is such a sweet way to add your own touch, whether you're celebrating a birthday, saying thank you or making a little Christmas surprise.

A Simple Scalloped Gift Card Holder for Any Occasion

The original Gift Card Holder Die cuts one scalloped rectangle with stitched detail & a built-in opening for your gift card. It's a one cut, flat gift card holder with no assembly needed (as far as pockets or folds) so it's a lovely place to start.

1. Cut the holder from cardstock or a patterned paper sturdy enough to support the gift card. I like using 80lb cardstock or heavier. 
2. Test the gift card in the notches before adding decorations. Take it out while you stamp, glue or add ink.
3. Keep your sentiment and embellishments clear of the notches so the gift card can slide in and out.
4. Let everything dry, then put the gift card back in. If you're attaching the holder to a larger card, leave the area behind the notches free of adhesive.

Pull a color from the gift card itself to choose your paper. It makes the store-bought part feel connected to the handmade part!

Build a Birthday Cake With Paper

The Make A Cake Gift Card Holder Die creates a layered cake with icing details & a place for the gift card (of course!). Choose colors for the cake, the filling and the frosting before cutting your pieces.

Start with the largest base piece & the cake-layer piece that holds the gift card. Line up their bottom centers so the cake has a neat, level base. The narrow strips of the base showing between the layers become your icing filling.

Add the large icing piece, followed by the smaller icing details & dollops. Lay everything out before gluing, and keep adhesive away from the gift card opening. A little dimension on the frosting can be fun, but check the fit in your envelope before adding too much.

A Round Ornament That Can Hang on the Tree

The Ornament Gift Card Holder Die makes a round Gift Card Holder with a topper & little charm details. Add ribbon through the top loop and it can hang on the tree after the gift card comes out!

1. Die cut the round holder from sturdy cardstock or patterned paper. If you want to stencil it, decorate while the piece is flat & let the ink or paste dry before continuing.
2. Cut the topper and your chosen charm pieces. Metallic or glitter cardstock is a fun contrast against patterned paper.
3. Pass the connective loop through a charm, then connect it to the topper as shown below. Attach the topper securely to your ornament.
4. Add ribbon if you'd like to hang it. Check that the gift card opening stays clear, then insert your gift card once the adhesive has dried.

You can keep the front simple with patterned paper or add a holiday pattern using the Holly & Swirls Layered Stencil, sold separately. Leave room for the gift card to cover part of your design.

Making Several Gifts?

Finish one Gift Card Holder first & check that the gift card slides out easily. Then cut the rest of your pieces in batches, decorate them together & add the final details once everything is dry.

A short handwritten note on the back makes each one feel personal, even when you've used the same papers for several gifts.
