Hi friends!
It’s Linh @lvhandcrafted and I’m excited to share with you a really fun interactive card! We’re going to make Betty, part of the fabulous Make a Moth collection, flutter her wings on this super cool interactive card!
Here’s what you’ll need:
● Hi, hey, hello Word Dies - Short & Sweet
● Die Cutting machine
● Crop-a-dile Big Bite
● Mini brads
Here’s what you’ll want to cut:
● Card Base (A2)
● Solid cardstock - 4-¼” x 5-½”
● Pattern Paper - 4 x 5-¼”
● Betty
○ Full body with wings (2 times)
○ Wings (left & right)
○ Body & head (both styles)
● Interactive mechanism
○ Upper Legs - 1-¼” x ⅜” (2 pieces)
○ Lower Legs - 1” x ⅜” (2 pieces)
○ Pull Tab - 2-½” x ½”

First, we need to make the wings complete so they can move on their own. Layer one of the wings over Betty’s full body and cut around the wings so you can layer that behind the wing. This way the openings at the end of the wings will have color behind them. Do the same with the other wing.
Similarly, the body with the head needs to also be complete. I die cut both versions of the body and layered one on top of the other and then trimmed off the antennae of the bottom layer.
Creating the Mechanism
You’ll want to punch ⅛” holes using the Big Bite at the end of all the “Leg” pieces. Use a mini brad to connect one Upper Leg to one Lower Leg. Do the same with the other set of Legs. Next, punch a ⅛” hole on one end of your pull tab. Connect both Upper Legs to the Pull Tab. You should have something that looks like a stick figure without arms and a head.

Next, position your moth body where you’d like it on your Pattern Paper. Punch a ⅛” hole where the points of the wings will be. This is where the wings will rotate from when they flap up and down. We’ll also need to cut a slit so our mechanism can slide through to the front from the back. I cut a half-circle below the ⅛” hole. The Lower Legs will slide from the back of the Pattern Paper to the front through that slit. Match up the holes on the Lower Legs with the hole on your Pattern Paper and fasten a brad through that hole. You should be able to pull the tab and move the legs.
Putting it all Together
With the mechanism assembled, you can now glue down the second Full Body with Wings (I cut away a portion of the body so it doesn’t overlap the slit where the legs are poking through to the front. Then I attach one wing to one of the Lower Legs and attach the other wing to the second Lower Leg. Now when you pull on the Pull Tab, you should really be able to see the wings flutter.
We can now glue down this pattern paper. I use a dimensional foam on the back of the Pattern Paper. Be sure that your foam does not interfere with the movement of the Pull Tab and the Legs. I also like to put foam right next to the Pull Tab to create a track so when you pull it moves straight up and down.

Adhere to your solid color cardstock and then onto your card base.
Add your sentiment and voila! You’ve made an interactive card. Be sure to check out the video below & watch how this card comes to life!

Thanks so much for joining me today!
