How To Make a Vertical A2 sized card

Hello my lovely crafty friends! Today is a very special blog post because I am sharing one of my monthly card sketches with you all, which is typically only available through our Creative Hearts Club

This card was so much fun to make, and also I wanted to share this fun "new" size I used. Vertical A2 sized card - so it's still the nice 5.5 inches x 4.25 inches once folded, but now you can open this up vertically so it's nice and tall! I love this style card & plan on making plenty more. Find the entire process video below!

First, I'm using our latest product - our brand NEW yay! Layered Word Die! I already had this yay! die cut out and created with some bright pink & green colors, creating a contrasting vibe that I knew I had to use for a watermelon themed card.

Notice how the outside layer of our yay! die cut has stitching on the inside & outside of the die, allowing you to utilize both pieces you cut! I then layered on the second layer using some thin foam squares, and finally the green "yay!" in that beautiful & dainty cursive font. Adhesive Sheets work beautifully with our thin font here, creating a sticker so you can stick it onto the other layer without any gluey mess.

I started this A2 Vertical card by using an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. On the short side, you will trim at 4.25 inches, which actually leaves you with TWO card bases to use! From there, I grabbed my Watermelon Stencil from Hero Arts & used some lovely Catherine Pooler Inks to blend & bring this background to life!

According to the August Card Sketch I created (pictured below!), there's a rough edge piece that goes on the bottom half of my card. Just know, card sketches are made for you to use your imagination! If you don't want to add that section, you definitely don't have to! I felt the contrast of the green popped here, and went with the yay! I created & tied it all together. I then used my Misti to stamp "nothing can stop you now" from our Graduation & Retirement Stamp Set - this is such a great stamp set to go with the yay! Layered Word Die! So many different sayings on there to choose from.

I then focused on the inside of my card. This card sketch is unique in that I left room for a pocket (inside of Card Sketch pictured below!)! I wanted to have a nice little corner pocket for our Original Gift Card Holder. I decided to ink blend the watermelon background onto my Gift Card Holder once I cut it out, which allowed for consistency throughout my card - plus it's just cute!

I created a corner pocket with the same green paper, and used the stamp set from Pretty Pink Posh to say on the pocket "you're on in a" and then stamped "Melon" on the inside of my card, hidden by the Gift Card Holder. But once removed, you can see it! How adorable is that?!

I also used my Party Dress Ink here on the bottom half of my card. I cut out the A2 Liner Die, then inked it with some Party Dress, then lined it with the Scalloped Die from Catherine Pooler. I put some Crafty Power Tape on this piece before cutting it out, and then applied some green foil! This really went with the watermelon theme!

Adding foil to Crafty Power Tape for a fun decorative piece!

From there, I wanted to finish it off with some sequins, so I added some adorable watermelon sequins from Picket Fence Studios & it really brought the whole design together. I was partially inspired by the card sketch, our new yay! Die, but also a household kitchen towel that has watermelons all over it! I thought this would be a great summertime card. Imagine gifting this to someone on their birthday or for a graduation! Such a fun card.
