Welcome back crafty friends! My latest blog post I shared how to use layered stencils to create a fun watermelon background for a card, and now I want to share with you the result of this background I created! I decided to use the awesome Watermelon Crush sequins from Picket Fence Studios to turn this into a shaker card! Below is a full process video on how I made this card.
I want to start out by saying for this card, I used 3 different brands of products. The watermelon stamp & die set are from Pretty Pink Posh, the watermelon layered stencil is from Hero Arts, and the watermelon sequins are from Picket Fence Studios! If you want to also count the Catherine Pooler inks, that would make 4 different brands! I love that this all came together so nicely, and I am a big fan of using either what you have in your stash or just buying products you love and making them work together!
I used a couple of fun techniques on this card I want to share. First thing I did was use my Catherine Pooler Inks to watercolor my stamped images! This is one of my favorite ways to work with my inks. I find it calming and fun! First, I took my stamps and used my Misti to stamp clear images onto some watercolor paper.
All you have to do is press your ink pads down onto a craft mat (I just use a plastic bag) and then spritz it with a little bit of water. Then you go through with a paintbrush and just paint your stamp images!
The next step was to die cut out these images! I love coordinating stamps and dies, it makes it so easy to create and are fun to work with.
I saved these pieces to decorate the front of my card base and to coordinate with my saying. Now is the first step for beginning the shaker card! First step is to use your die cuts to cut a center out of your card base. I chose to use my circle dies, but you could use any type of frame dies you have. I cut a circle right out of the middle of my card base.
Step two is grab an acetate sheet to put on the back of your card base. I used Cherry tape to adhere the acetate to the base of my card so the glue doesn't get on the acetate sheets.
Now we can decorate the front of our card base! I even created my own curved sentiment strip using the circle dies! I adjusted my stamp on the Misti to go with the curve & then ink blended some It's A Girl onto the sentiment to add some color.
I added all the sentiments on with some small foam dots and Cherry dots! Next is the fun part, to add the foam tape and sequins! First, sprinkle your awesome watermelon sequins onto the card base. Turn your front part over and add your foam Cherry tape. The most important part is to make sure the foam tape is touching all around so none of the sequins fall out.
And now, you gently place the card front onto the base of your card! Make sure you don't add too many sequins, and make sure they are spread out so they don't get stuck in between the acetate.
And that's it! Shaker cards always intimidated me at first, but now that I've done them a couple times, they are getting easier and easier! I promise you can do them too :) Let me know in the comments what you'd like to see next!
