Hi crafty friends! Today I am sharing a fun blog post showcasing the small doily oval die that's included in our Shaker Frame Die set! You can use both dies together, but I did want to share a few more ways you can use the Doily Oval Die on it's own.
Below I have a full process video of me putting together some cards in a unique way & also sharing some fun decor tips with the oval die cut!
You may have seen my video HERE sharing how I put together this beautiful floral display below.
This idea was actually inspired by my niece Ellie, who took a fabric flower from my stash & put it on the oval cut out to put on a card for her sister!
The fabric flowers are the perfect size.
I also wanted to try this out with a single paper flower, and I do like the look of it. But I think a larger floral die cut might be nice to use to fill out the space a little more. But overall, this is just a fun technique to try out!
I like to prop up the flowers with some 3D foam squares to add some dimension & space between the flower & the patterned paper.
Flowers are great, but you can basically decorate these fun oval die cuts with anything! Here I added an embossed chipboard butterfly & a cute chipboard saying from 49 and Market.
Imagine that piece on the center of a card using our Decorative Sentiment Dies! (swoon!)
I shared a video using some patterned paper on the entire frame, and then also cutting out the Oval. This was a lot of fun. You could even use washi tape or scraps of paper!
In my video for this blog, I shared more about creating background with the ovals. For this card below, I used Catherine Pooler Roses & Lace patterned paper to cut out my oval doilies. I then trimmed the edges of the ones that were overlapping (which really makes a card look so sleek in my opinion!), and added a fun word die (coming soon!).
Also, notice the white overlapping oval doily on the right side covering part of the dark blue patterned paper. I thought that added some visual appeal!
Here's a slimline card I created doing the same technique, but decided to do half on top, half on bottom to keep the design even.
I also wanted to share Sara Scraps card she created using our Shaker Frame Die, she utilized the Oval Doily Die in such a cute way on her second card! I love how they're off to the side & cut off. It gives a lot of visual interest!
SO much beautiful detail with that embossed scalloped edging!
I also wanted to share how Lauren Taylor Made used the Doily Die in coordination with our Ornament Gift Card Holder Die. How adorable did that turn out!?
And obviously, you can stamp on it as well! Below are some more card examples using the Doily on the inside of cards!
I hope this blog inspires you to use the small doily oval in more ways than one! Let me know in the comments how you would use it!
